YES2 Mission Control - Deployment, second phase

Hi people!
Sorry to have been silent so long, but we've been understanding what was going on ourselves.

First of all, the data shows that the ejection and first stage were really close to nominal. The same goes for the transition phase. Later, during the second stage, the tether slowed down. As the tether deployed slower than planned, it reached a length of 8.5 km before the preprogrammed command released Fotino loose from MASS and cut the tether. We are currently assessing the orbit of Fotino to understand when and where the capsule will return to Earth on its parachute.

Despite not having reached the full 30 km deployment, we think that the hard work of the YES2 team has paid off with this largely successful demonstration.

We're going to keep you updated on the news, as soon as they come up. By now here in Moscow there is a lot of activity to analyse the data we received from the Foton and the TeleSupport telemetry.

Thanks a lot for following the blog and waiting for news.

Fabio

Did we make it?

BTW,

Was this the largest human-made structure in space ever?

Cheers

It is a recurrent question,

It is a recurrent question, so it's right to answer, finally.

No, the largest human-made structure in space is still another tether, 20 km long. We wanted to beat that record, but got to 8.5 km instead.
Sorry guys, no Guinness today ;-)

SpaceRoulette redux

Great work everybody! Can I place a bet now on where the capsule will land or is it already 'rien ne va plus'?

Congratulations

Congratulations YES2 team! Good work! :-)  YES2 mission is going so far!!

I think and I hope the mission will be ended successfully  :-) ...

Now, we continue waiting expectantly for news!!

Cheers,

Isabel

Congrats. then

So if part of the deployment was made successfully and Fotino is going to reentry anyway, I think it's pretty good.

Keep updating the weblog (as you did perfectly so far), it's the only way to get news from the mission.

As soon as you know the landing point tell us. Maybe you have to visit Spain soon ;)

Cheers

i hope it wil fall on my head
