Submitted by michiel.yes2 on Sun, 10/12/2006 - 00:19.
YES2 is a 36 kg student-built satellite that will be launched on Foton-M3 in September 2007. It is under construction right now and will demonstrate an accurate deorbit of the 5 kg Fotino capsule from a 30 km tether. The capsule will land in Kazakhstan. The project started in 2005 and 300 students have contributed so far on the design and test. Right now about 40 students and young engineers are working on YES2, most of them as interns in Delta-Utec in Leiden or at ESTEC. We are supported by sponsoring companies such as Bradford Engineering (manufacturing) in Holland, Emxys (electronics) in Spain and ActiveSpace (thermal) in Portugal.
